What is SKODA VIN?

Like many other manufacturers, each Skoda car uses a unique 17-character alphanumeric identification number to identify each individual car. This number is a personal number and tracks the car from the time it leaves the factory to the car scrap.

This code is printed on a small plate where other basic data about the vehicle can be found next to it. Based on clear standards set back in 1980, you can identify the vehicle manually, but it is much easier to use our digital Skoda VIN decoder.

What does the SKODA VIN decoder include?

Each VIN number consists of three sections: a global manufacturer identification, a vehicle descriptor and a vehicle identifier that hide details about each individual Skoda car.

Skoda chassis number gives us the following information:

Characters from 1 to 3 indicate the country where the car is produced, the manufacturer and the geographical location of the factory.

Depending on the manufacturer's country, i.e. the place where the SKODA factory is located, as well as the body type, this code has the following values:

WMI Country
MEXSkoda Auto India
TMBSkoda Auto Czech Republic
TMPSkoda Ostrov
Y6USkoda Auto Ukraine

If the VIN number starts with the letter T, the vehicle was manufactured in the Czech Republic. In addition, Skoda is produced in India and Ukraine.

Characters from 4 to 6 refer to the model, engine, and safety systems in the vehicle, such as front or side airbags.

Characters from 7 to 8 indicate the vehicle model, Octavia, Scala, Fabia.

Character 9 is a security digit and indicates the validity of the VIN number.

Character 10 indicates the year of manufacture. So if this mark is "R", the car was manufactured in 2024.

Character 11 indicates the factory where the vehicle is assembled.

Characters 12 to 17 are the vehicle's serial number. These characters are always numbers.

Where can I find the SKODA chassis number?

The Skoda VIN number can be found in several locations in the car:

  1. Under the windshield on the right side or in the engine compartment of the vehicle.
  2. Next to the front door or on the pillar of the body
  3. Technical specification of the vehicle

Skoda VIN number is usually in the form: TMBHE61Z0D2132464

Which SKODA models can be checked using the VIN decoder?

Skoda Works was founded in 1859 by the Czech engineer Emil Skoda and was engaged in the production of weapons. Skoda Auto is a car manufacturer, founded in 1925 in Mladá Boleslav in the Czech Republic, as the successor of the Laurin & Klement company.
