What is a Mercedes-Benz VIN?
The Mercedes-Benz identification number is a 17-character alphanumeric code unique to each particular vehicle. It helps you find out basic information about the vehicle, but also information that the seller might not want to tell you.
The Mercedes-Benz decoder allows you to very easily decipher vehicle data, but also to get a detailed history report containing all relevant information from official databases and resources.
What does the Mercedes-Benz VIN decoder include?
The Mercedes-Benz VIN code can be divided into three basic units. Each unit separately provides different information about the vehicle.
The first three characters (1-3) show the country of origin, manufacturer and vehicle type.
Depending on the country of the manufacturer, i.e. the place where the Mercedes-Benz factory is located, as well as the body type, this code may differ.

If the VIN number begins with the number 8, the vehicle was manufactured in Argentina. If the first mark is W, Mercedes is of German origin, Z – Russia, N – Turkey.
Characters 4 through 9 specify the model or series, transmission type, body, engine, and check digit. If the fifth character is "F", it is a Sedan, and "H" is a Wagon. The next character identifies the model, and the eighth character identifies the security systems.
Characters from 10 to 17. The tenth character shows the year the car was made, and the eleventh the factory where the Mercedes was made. Thus, the marks "F" and "H" indicate the production plant in Bremen, and "X" in Graz. The remaining characters are the serial number of the vehicle and they are always numeric.
Where can I find the Mercedes-Benz chassis number?
